About This Place

Tacos El Bandido Express brings an authentic slice of Mexican street food right to the heart of Tustin, CA. This vibrant Mexican restaurant is a true haven for taco lovers and Birria aficionados alike, located conveniently at 13812 Newport Ave. Whether you’re craving the smoky, juicy Carne Asada Tacos or the richly spiced Crispy Birria Tacos, every bite here bursts with bold, handcrafted flavors that pay tribute to traditional recipes.

The menu is a treasure trove of Mexican comfort food classics elevated with generous portions and fresh ingredients. Highlights include the Giant Sope — a satisfyingly thick corn tortilla base loaded with beans, meats, cheese, and toppings — and the indulgent Carne Asada Fries or Bandido Fries, perfect for sharing or savoring solo. Seafood fans will appreciate the delicately seasoned Fish Taco, while those seeking heartier fare can dive into the Cali Burrito or the Torta Cubana stuffed with a delectable medley of asada, pastor, chorizo, and more.

A standout feature here is their celebrated Birria menu. From the crispy Dorados Taco Birria to the comforting 1 or 2-pound Birria platters served with rice, beans, consomé, and tortillas, each dish is carefully prepared to release deep, aromatic flavors. The Consomé broth, rich and savory, perfectly complements these dishes, inviting you to savor every last drop. For a customizable experience, their Mix & Match options, like Burrito & Taco or Burrito & Quesadilla combo plates, add variety without overwhelming your palate.

Dining at Tacos El Bandido Express is a warm, no-frills experience that feels refreshingly genuine. The interior may not be the flashiest — with booths and tables showing some wear — but it’s this humble charm that echoes the traditional taqueria vibe. Customers repeatedly mention the friendly, welcoming staff who elevate the atmosphere, making you feel like a regular from the moment you walk in. A fully stocked, self-serve salsa bar featuring tangy green and spicy red salsas, along with fresh cucumber slices, adds an interactive and flavorful touch to your meal.

While some visitors note that wait times can be a bit longer than fast-food joints, this actually speaks volumes about the quality and care put into each dish. The asada, for example, is grilled fresh upon order, preserving its smoky succulence rather than resorting to reheating — a true mark of authenticity rarely found outside of Mexico. This dedication to freshness is what makes your tacos here stand out: each bite is moist, vibrant, and juicy, never dry or overcooked.

Whether you're stopping by for a quick lunch or a casual dinner with friends, Tacos El Bandido Express offers a flavorful, heartfelt experience for those who crave genuine Mexican flavors in a friendly, relaxed environment. Their Taco Tuesday $1.50 specials are a budget-friendly way to sample some of the best tacos in the area, making it a perfect spot for both locals and visitors keen to explore new tastes.

In short, Tacos El Bandido Express is not just a place to eat — it’s a flavorful journey into Mexican culinary tradition, where each dish tells a story of passion and technique, waiting to be savored bite by unforgettable bite.

Great tacos. The booths and tables are very worn and the service was friendly but the food took a little long to come out.

This little place doesn’t look like a fancy corporate with a bunch of franchises but what it has is a delicious punch of flavor! Seriously yummm! The tacos are big and stuffed. The employees are very happy to see you come in. Plenty of seating and they offer a fully stocked self serve fresh salsa bar with two types of salsa, a green one and a red one (I love the green one), sliced cucumbers, sliced lemons, and a mixture of chopped cilantro and onions. Love the Birria tacos, the Taco Governador (shrimp taco covered with chipotle sauce and cheese), and the carne asada taco with avocado sauce.. Yummm.. The prices and the quality and the quantity go hand in hand. Plus, they also have great deals on Taco Tuesday. Thank you, Chris and Ivanna for the great service and consistency in all my visits.

I love this place for tacos. They have birria, shrimp, pastor and more. The spicy guacamole salsa is tasty. Think great tacos and basic home in the wall booths. Clean! Friendly staff.

Taco Tuesday $1.50 Good tacos but nothing amazing. The meat quality is decent, great prices, flavorful. Asada has a nice Smokey taste to it with some avocado sauce Pastor - pretty good, it’s a ground beef texture with avocado green sauce Small location there’s a few tables in there and everything was clean. I’d come back again if I’m in the area

Yes, it takes time. But that's because your asada is made at the time you order, makes a big difference in your tacos. Many places just keep warming and drying the asada, which is a no no in Mexico, that makes it fast but should be forbidden

Awesome authentic mexican spot with Halal options for birria / tacos. Not everything is halal, ask ahead to be sure. Everything tasted great. I preferred the crispy taco as the soft wa a bit too doughy, but I did eat it once it cooled a bit. Birria was good.
